GATES STAYING ANOTHER YEAR -- Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell last evening, in response to an inquiry from AP: “Secretary Gates met with the President just before Christmas and gave him a commitment to stay on the job for AT LEAST another year. They agreed to revisit this issue again later this year, but for all intents and purposes their original agreement still stands: he serves at the pleasure of the President indefinitely and he is honored to do so, though he certainly looks forward to one day retiring to his family home in the Pacific Northwest.”He's been looking forward to one day retiring to his family home in the Pacific Northwest AT LEAST since he spoke to my undergrad senior history seminar nine years ago. So good luck with all that!

Gates sticking around "for AT LEAST another year"
As if we thought the guy would walk out in the middle of the job. This from Mike Allen's Playbook on Politico this morning:
Seriously--when you have a family home in the Pacific Northwest, how can you NOT look forward to retiring there?
ReplyDeleteIf Gates were to donate his brain to science (assuming it is possible for him to pass away), I suspect the doctors will discover that his insides are lacking in any bone, muscle, or blood. Rather, they will discover that he is just a giant walking mass of grey matter. I wish that we could elect guys like this to the Presidency, or at least appoint him as Lord Protector or something.
