Friday photo of the day (UPDATED)

So yeah, it's cool that U.S. troops are marching in the Victory Day parade in Moscow today, etc etc. Security cooperation, building bridges between past allies, remembering our mutual sacrifices in the destruction of the Nazi specter and so on and so forth. But easily the awesomest thing about this whole story is this picture of U.S. TROOPS MARCHING ACROSS RED SQUARE.

If you don't watch it, Russkies, next time they'll be serious!

(Ok, not really. (Well, probably not.))
UPDATE: Two more pictures from the day of the parade. First from the NYT...

...second from Danger Room (thanks to karakapend in the comments for this one).

Awesome.

This was just a rehearsal on Thursday night. The real show is today.

  4. Do we know who exactly is participating? I just see "US troops" and "American infantrymen.

It's a detachment from the 170th Infantry Brigade, stationed in Baumholder, Germany.

  6. Let's hope they wear proper parade attire in the real thing: pistol belt, canteen, and helmet - because that looks really squared away.

  7. Schmedlap,

Get with the times. The new standard is MOLLE vest, with canteen and beret.

  9. ND,

Awesome. I'm glad to see things didn't get too much more stupid since I ETS'd.

  10. By departing, you lowered the average ASVAB score by 100 points, Schmedlap.

  11. Typo: 10 points.

If you lowered ASVAB by 100, you would be in negative territory. We reserve those scores for think tanks and OSD.

  12. Nice. We and the Ruskies be friends now :-)

"If you lowered ASVAB by 100, you would be in negative territory. We reserve those scores for think tanks and OSD."

  13. And here they are in full regalia. Have they allayed any sartorial concerns?

lol. I recall an enlisted man who reported into 1st Marines with an ASVAB GT score of 158. Since everyone knows the max score is 150, it caused quite a commotion! I think the required GT score for grunts back then was 60 :o

People generally get dumber in my absence.

  16. On a purely aesthetic basis, I like the first picture (the rehearsal) best.

Less formal yet more evocative. Don't know why?

Perhaps because that is what the general public is more used to seeing, and therefore has more associations?

Oh, never mind. Still buried under. Snow drifts worth of buried under....
